Firefly The Complete Series on Blu-ray

You see the irony here, although Fox screwed up the airing and killed the show almost right away they seem to be milking this one aren’t they. The cult hit Firefly will be coming out on Blu-ray November 11th. So all you browncoats out there get ready to fork over $89.98 for the swiftly canceled series. Even I did not get a chance to see what the hubub was about, so this may be it.

The Sopranos: The Complete Series

Big Sopranos fan are ya? Then I have some great news for you! HBO will be releasing the entire series onto one giant gift set on November 11th. Not only will you get every show from every season, but also a 56-page hand-assembled album enclosed in a sleek black linen box featuring all 86 episodes re-mastered on 28 discs as well as two bonus discs and two CD soundtracks on three discs. This set weighs in over 10 pounds! You know how many concrete shoes this could make? In order to get your hands on this one prepare to take out a small loan too, its $399.99! Whoa, even that’s a bit much for a wiseguy. What else do you get for these kind of bones?

Oh Behave! Austin Powers Collection Shagadelic Edition Box Set

Yeah baby! You read that right, our favorite spy spoof series from Mike Myers is coming to Blu-ray on December 2nd in the Austin Powers Collection: Shagadelic Edition, Loaded With Extra Mojo box set. What? No DVD version?  It will be priced at the oh so cheap for a back catalog title $74.98 SRP. Really, the only one worth seeing is the original can’t they split this one up also? Not sure what the benefit of Blu-ray will have with these films but I suppose it is here to stay. Read on for more specs:

Casablanca Ultimate Collectors Edition

Play it again Sam..and again..and again. For you fans of this classic Bogart film, Warner Bros is pulling no punches and giving you the ultimate package for this film in three collectors editions on December 2nd.  This will mark its debut on blu-ray as well as DVD in a new Ultimate Collectors Edition. The previously released two disc special edition is also being refreshed for this date.  To entice you to pick up this disc, Warners is throwing in some extra stuff (kind of like the Christmas Story set) that will sit on your shelf taking up valuable space. “The premium giftset is elegantly boxed in an intricate laser-cut Moroccan design and will include such collectibles as replicas of actual props (Victor Laszlo’s “Letter of Transit”) as well as a number of Warner studio documents (an executive’s letter commanding a new PR image for Bogart from gangster to romantic lead; a note from producer Hal Wallis re-titling the film to Casablanca; and a memo from Wallis to Jack Warner strongly urging casting Bogart over George Raft). The DVD set will also contain a branded passport holder, luggage tag, photo book and a mail-in offer for a reproduction of the original movie poster. ” This will cost you $59.98 SRP for the DVD and $64.99 SRP for the Blu-ray of course. James Bond coming to Blu-ray

Not sure how I missed this announcement (it was buried in my email) but there’s a bunch of classic Bond flicks coming out on Blu-ray October 21st, naturally in time for the next installment Quantum Of Solace. Actually its six films from the MGM back catalog, DR. No, Die Another Day, Live And Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, From Russia With Love and Thunderball which have all been remastered. You will be able to get each title individually or packaged in a 3 pack, and each one comes with a movie ticket for Quantum, and the packs 2 tickets. How cool is that? For $34.98 SRP and $89.98 SRP that’s sort of a deal. What’s a ticket cost these days? $10 smackers?

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Hold on to your whips folks, Paramount has just announced our favorite archeologist with a penchant for hiding in flying nuked refrigerators will be coming to DVD and Blu-ray on October 14th. You have a choice of single disc ($29.99 SRP), double disc DVD ($39.99 SRP) or a Blu-ray ($39.99 SRP). Also there will be another box set with the other three films included (gee what a surprise) and will be called The Complete Adventure Collection ($89.99 SRP). No mention of any new Blu-rays for the original films though, at least its a start. Honestly I can’t say I’m that excited with this news, the film was well..disappointing to me. Maybe another go at home will change my mind somehow. But I digress, check out the specs below:

The Ultimate Matrix Collection on Blu-ray

This is the moment fans of this film series have been waiting for, sort of. Warner Bros has just announced that you will be able to catch Neo doing his superman thing in glorious hi definition Blu-ray on October 14th. But wait a sec, they say its on a Blu-ray but is it really in high def? I’m a bit cornfused here, but according to the release it does say hi def but the specs below say standard def. Eh?  Clarification? This new box set will include not only all three movies, but also The Animatrix animated series as well as a digital copy of The Matrix for portable players. Unfortunately this will only be available as a box set for $129.95 SRP, so if you just want parts of the set you are out of luck. But man, this thing is packed to hilt with features! You’ll be able to get your Matrix on for at least a month. Check out this list:

Planet Of The Apes 40 Year Evolution on Blu-ray

Those damn dirty apes never looked so good until now. Fox has just announced that a new blu-ray box set containing all the Apes movies will be released on November 4th, remastered special just for the hi def format. Although it seems this is a rehash of an earlier box set Planet Of The Apes Ultimate Collection. You’ll go bananas when you can pick this box set up for a mere $159.98 SRP . No mention of individual titles being released though. Titles for this box set include the classic Planet Of The Apes, Beneath The Planet Of The Apes, Escape From Planet Of The Apes,  Battle For Planet Of The Apes, and the previously unreleased to DVD Conquest Of Planet Of The Apes.  You can get your dirty hands on the details right here:

The Alice Faye Collection Volume 2

For you classic film buffs , and old school musical fans, Fox is releasing a commemorative DVD box set featuring Alice Faye on October 7th. Apparently there was enough demand on Volume 1 to warrant another set.   You will be able to get either the box set ($49.98 SRP) or the individual titles separately, which are priced at $19.98 SRP. The titles included are: Hollywood Cavalcade, Rose Of Washington Square, The Great American Broadcast, Hello, Frisco, Hello , and Four Jills In A Jeep. Check out the specs below:

Alfred Hitchcock Premiere Collection

Get ready Hitchcock fans, October 14th marks the arrival of the Premiere Collection box set from MGM. All the films included have been remastered and “also includes a 32-page notebook with trivia, production notes and more about the legendary director.” Films listed for this 8 disc set are; Rebecca, Spellbound, Notorious, The Paradine Case, Lifeboat, Young And Innocent, Sabotage, and The Lodger. The box set will be priced at $119.98 SRP. They are also releasing Rebecca, Spellbound, and Notorious individually as well for $19.98 each if the box set isn’t your thing.
