Its that time once again when web sites, newspapers, and pretty much everyone likes to trot out lists for end of the year retrospectives. Yep, I too am jumping on this bandwagon, although I started one back in July so in essence I am ahead of the curve. So without further delay, here are the nominees for the second half of 2008:
Iron Man Ultimate 2-Disc Edition DVD“Iron Man as a movie is awesome, there I said it pure and simple. Its friggin cool and the whole thing just works. I have very few complaints, except for maybe a better super villain could have been involved but that can be overlooked as this is an origin story. When does the sequel come out? I want to see more!” |

Godfather Collection: The Coppola Restoration“They are some of the most iconic American film series, a masterpiece no less considered the second best film of all time (next to Citizen Kane), it redefined the genre and created a space for itself in popular culture that if someone quotes a line from this film every usually knows where it comes from. These film looks absolutely gorgeous, and in comparison to the older box set these are far superior versions of the film.” |

Sleeping Beauty: 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition”It is a testament to the lost art of fine animation. Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty is a classic, a true work of art that cannot be recreated today, nor even shortly thereafter. This film represents the finest hand drawn animation that they ever produced, even under the watchful eye of the mega control freak Walt Disney, and it was the end of an era for this type of animation. The remastering process for the film has paid off, it looks simply fantastic on a large screen television. Scratches, dust, errors or lines are simply not present, at least I didn’t notice.” |

Tropic Thunder Unrated Directors Cut”I found myself constantly in stitches as Ben Stiller’s film about the Hollywood industry takes it down a notch and just tramples everything we know and love about movie stars, movie studio executives, war films, and the schlock that they pump out. This is a film that not only pushes the line in political correctness, it manages to obliterate it to get that joke in. There is a lot on here, most of it is the usual stuff you’ll find on any movie, but tucked away in here are a few things that extend the joke.” |

Batman: The Dark Knight Special Edition“Batman The Dark Knight, the sequel to the rebooted franchise film had garnered such hype that there was no way it could live up to the early expectations. The critics were proved wrong, and I was giddy as a school girl as director Christopher Nolan was able to create one of the greatest, darkest super hero films of all time and goes above and beyond the hype (a rare feat!). Not only was it ground breaking, it takes this genre to a whole new level.” |

Nice list!
Iron Man is a good movie but The Dark Knight is the best for me.
