This is the moment fans of this film series have been waiting for, sort of. Warner Bros has just announced that you will be able to catch Neo doing his superman thing in glorious hi definition Blu-ray on October 14th. But wait a sec, they say its on a Blu-ray but is it really in high def? I’m a bit cornfused here, but according to the release it does say hi def but the specs below say standard def. Eh? Clarification? This new box set will include not only all three movies, but also The Animatrix animated series as well as a digital copy of The Matrix for portable players. Unfortunately this will only be available as a box set for $129.95 SRP, so if you just want parts of the set you are out of luck. But man, this thing is packed to hilt with features! You’ll be able to get your Matrix on for at least a month. Check out this list:
Those damn dirty apes never looked so good until now. Fox has just announced that a new blu-ray box set containing all the Apes movies will be released on November 4th, remastered special just for the hi def format. Although it seems this is a rehash of an earlier box set Planet Of The Apes Ultimate Collection. You’ll go bananas when you can pick this box set up for a mere $159.98 SRP . No mention of individual titles being released though. Titles for this box set include the classic Planet Of The Apes, Beneath The Planet Of The Apes, Escape From Planet Of The Apes, Battle For Planet Of The Apes, and the previously unreleased to DVD Conquest Of Planet Of The Apes. Wow, I can’t believe that July is pretty much done, and summer is practically over already. Since the year is already half way done I thought this would be a good time to stop and take stock in what DVD’s make the cut that I have reviewed over the last seven months or so. Mind you, its not based on the entire catalog of every single DVD that was made this year, just the ones I got a chance to take. Remember as well these are DVD’s, not Blu-ray movies, I’m hoping to rectify that soon too. Yes I know, another list but I like em so too bad! So with out delay, my picks of the best DVD’s.
The latest from the Wachowski brothers is racing its way to store shelves on September 16th on DVD and Blu-ray form by Warner Bros. Can’t say much about this film as I have not seen it but this is the first of the summer season to be announced right? It was a box office bomb but maybe it will have an extended shelf life, who knows. At any rate there will be a single (full and widescreen) DVD as well as the usual Blu-ray, pricing is listed as $28.98 SRP for the DVD and $35.99 SRP for Blu.
The latest Dr. Suess adaptation Horton Hears A Who is stampeding to DVD and Blu-ray on December 9th. There will be three versions, single flipper DVD, 2 disc DVD and Blu-ray, plus another 2 disc gift set that includes a plush toy of Horton. Aww how cute. The two disc DVD and Blu-ray will be coming with a digital version as well, pricing has been set at $29.98 SRP for the single, $34.98 SRP the double, and $39.98 SRP for Blu-ray and the gift set. Ever since the floodgates have been opened over at Warners, more and more back catalog titles are coming out in hi def. I got an email with a poster image attached detailing some information on the movie Blow that stars Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz. Its coming out on September 23rd priced at $28.99 SRP. Not all the specs have been released yet but it does come with a bonus digital copy, in-movie interactivity, commentary tracks and enhanced viewing focus points whatever that means.

November 11th will bring out a reissue of Oliver Stones JFK in an updated three disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition and a Blu-ray version of the same package along with a new documentary The Kennedys: America’s Emerald Kings available separately. Although the DVD is a repackage of the earlier Directors Cut, they also added a few goodies such as “memorabiliafrom the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Kennedy Foundation, including reproductions of Kennedy family and presidential photos, letters written by or to John F. Kennedy from J. Edgar Hoover, Lyndon. B. Johnson and more. The UCE also will include a Kennedy campaign button from the National Archives and Records Administration. Of particular distinction is the inclusion of John F. Kennedy’s historic inaugural address and a handwritten letter to his father, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. In addition, the set features a collectible booklet containing production photos and photo cards showcasing the actors in character with a mini bio of their character.” The Blu-ray will come in special packaging in hardcover book form.
