The Godfather comes to Blu-ray

Just got the notice that one of the greatest film series of all time is making its way onto Blu-ray and DVD in a newly restored print supervised by Coppola himself. On September 23rd, The Godfather Collection The Coppola Restoration will be hitting store shelves in either a DVD or Blu-ray box set, and also each film individually on DVD, so you can skip Part III if needed.  But my word these box sets are massive and pricey ($119 for the Blu-ray version)! If there was an incentive to jump to Blu-ray this could be it. Check this out:

Risky Business 25th Anniversary Edition

Oh, the thought of seeing Tom Cruise shakin his moneymaker in tighty whiteys in hi definition was near the end of my list, but alas, Warners is making that nightmare scenario come true on September 16th.  That’s right, the film that launched a thousand Scientologists is coming to Blu-ray and DVD packed with all kinds of goodies. The DVD will go for $19.97 while Blu-ray sets you back $28.99. Here is what you get for your money:

The Omen Collection on Blu-ray

Its time to hide under your blanket, on September 9th Fox is releasing the original The Omen and its horror spawn on Blu-ray to your local video retailer. You may choose from either the The Omen by itself or bundled in The Omen Collection which also includes its sequels and the remake (The Omen, Damien: Omen II and Omen III: Final Conflict). Along side these films, Russian horror films Nightwatch and Daywatch will also be making their Blu-ray debuts (Insert evil laugh here). The pricing for these discs are as follows:

Street Kings

Street Kings, starring Keanu Reeves and Forest Whittaker makes its DVD and Blu-ray debut on August 19th from Fox Home Entertainment. It will come in single disc and double disc DVD and Blu-ray versions which includes a digital copy for portable viewing. Pricing is as follows: Single disc $29.98 Double Disc $34.98 and Blu $39.98 SRP

The New World Extended Cut

Terrance Malick’s film The New World will be getting an extended cut version on DVD coming out on October 7th this year. It will contain 30 more minutes of footage giving a new run time of 172 minutes. Whoa.. The historical film that stars Colin Ferrell  and Christain Bale in a retelling of the Captain Smith and Pocahontas story will be priced at $19.97 SRP.  You can probably find the original DVD in the bargain bin somewhere. The only extra materials on this DVD listed consists of a  comprehensive, ten-part documentary Making the New World capturing the unique challenges of creating this historic epic.

Watership Down Deluxe Edition

Warner Bros will release on October 7th for the 30th anniversary Watership Down in a deluxe edition for $19.97 SRP. For a classic animated film such as this there doesn’t seem to be much in the deluxe department and they just had a 25th Anniversary version out in 2003 from what I can tell on Amazon. What gives?

The Ruins Unrated

Paramount is quickly pumping out the horror flick The Ruins in an unrated and original theatrical cut versions slated for store shelves on July 8th. It will be in both Blu-ray and DVD flavors,  although original cut is DVD only. You’ll be able to grab this title for about $29.99 SRP for DVD and $39.99 SRP in Blu-ray, but most likely for a lot less at the store.
