Holiday Wishes From The Dweeb

No matter if you were naughty or nice this year, I would like to wish all the best to you and your family this Christmas. May you unwrap that shiny new Hi Def player from under your tree, and have a jolly Christmas and Happy New Year. I look forward to bringing you more reviews in 2008!

Death At A Funeral

Death At A Funeral will come to DVD on February 26th by the good folks at MGM. Looks like this film flew a bit under the radar but fare well on the festival circuit. It is directed by Frank Oz and according to IMDB the plot goes like this:

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford comes to the stores on February 5th courtesy of Warner Bros. This western film about Jesse James will come in multiple formats including regular DVD in widescreen, HD/DVD combo and Blu-Ray. Note that the high def versions are being released later in the month on February 26th. Suggested prices are $27.95 SRP for DVD and $35.99 for the hi def versions. There aren’t any details listed for the regular DVD but they do list one item for the HD DVD disc, a 30 minute documentary: “The Assassination of Jesse James: Death of an Outlaw.” Hmmm, something tells me this press release may be a tad early. Thats really lame if that is the only extra feature on there. It will of course contain a Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 sound track as well as the necessary subtitling in English, Spanish and French.

Ice Age The Meltdown

Well, if the first version on DVD wasn’t good enough for ya, well its coming back! Fox is releasing this rehash on March 4th with some new stuff to entice you to buy it yet again for a cool $19.98. DVD also includes “Hollywood Movie Money” good for tickets to the highly anticipated Jim Carrey family comedy Horton Hears A Who! Here is the listing of whats in this new package:

The Brave One

Warner Bros is set to release The Brave One on February 5th in multiple versions, single disc widescreen, fullscreen, Blu-Ray and for the adventerous, HD-DVD Combo disc. This thriller film stars Jodie Foster (who is always in a thriller is she not?), Terence Howard, Mary Steenburgen , and Naveen Andrews . Extra features seem to be on the slim side, as the only ones listed are the Featurette: I Walk the City and deleted scenes. It will be in Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital 2.0 with subtitles in English, ESDH, Spanish, French .

The Darjeeling Limited

Wes Anderson’s latest creation is coming to DVD on February 26th from Fox Home Entertainment. Wes is known for his quirky films, almost more for the arthouse crowd than the summer blockbuster types, but they typically are excellent viewing. This film stars Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody along with his usual favorites like Bill Murray and Anjelica Houston. You’ll be able to retail this one for about $29.98, wow Criterion prices! The press release is short on the extra featurettes that you would think come with a price tag like this. Most of his other films are jam packed.

The Invasion

The Invasion comes to DVD, HD DVD/DVD combo, Blu-ray, and Hd DVD (What no VHS?) on January 29th from Warner Bros. The film stars Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman in a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Personally I haven’t even heard this was out in theatres, but I’ve been under a rock this year so what do I know.

Drumline Special Edition

On January 29th, Fox releases Drumline Special Edition starring Nick Cannon , Zoe Saldana , and Orlando Jones. You can get his one for $19.98. The DVD “features new on-camera interviews with actor Orlando Jones and director Charles Stone III plus three all-new featurettes focusing on the collegiate marching bands that inspired the film.”
